The green economy and the opportunities and challenges of developing the labor market
The Association of Companies Working in the Field of Renewable Energy and Energy Management (REES) participated in the activities of the workshop entitled “The Green Economy and the Opportunities and Challenges of Developing the Labor Market,” which was organized by the Business Development Center (BDC) today, Tuesday, 3/21/2023, in Amman at the Landmark Hotel, in coordination with the Association. . And he threw a. Dr.. Muhammad Hamza Al-Dado, President of the Association, gave a speech in which he introduced the Association, its objectives and its most important achievements, and reviewed in particular the challenges facing the renewable energy sector in the Kingdom. He summarized these challenges as follows:
1. The instability of legislation regulating the sector, which negatively affects investments. Last year, a fee of two dinars per month was imposed on every kilowatt installed in the domestic sector, and a few days ago this fee was imposed on other sectors without any prior introductions, and there is a fear that it will be generalized to all sectors soon.
2. Scarcity of approvals for requests to install renewable energy systems. There are areas that have been completely closed for years and no approvals have been issued. In many cases, approvals are issued for capabilities that do not constitute 10% of the actual need. This does not mean a lack of approvals, but they are much less than what citizens and investors demand and need.
3. Slow progress of procedures at electricity distribution companies. We call for the automation of these procedures and the setting of a timetable that these companies adhere to, so that everyone is dealt with transparently, which avoids disputes that may arise between the companies providing the service and investors.
4. Lack of clarity on the future official policy for this sector. Is there an expansion in the field of renewable energy uses, or are there technical limitations that prevent this expansion? Since the world is unanimous in the importance of the green economy and renewable energy, what are the government’s plans to confront these technical limitations, if any? What are the government’s plans for storage solutions, self-consumption solutions, and electrical interconnection solutions with neighboring countries other than the occupying Zionist entity?
5. There is no actual partnership between the public and private sectors. Rather, it is formal and does not yield solutions that help workers in the sector and investors who are in dire need of reducing their energy costs.
The Vice President of the Association, Engineer Muhannad Al-Ajarma, a spokesman for the industrial sector, participated in the dialogue session. The topics of the session were:
1. The possibility of using solar thermal energy in the industrial sector
2. The importance of energy auditing and energy efficiency for the industrial sector.
